The department utilises a CUPS-Server with SMB/CIFS to serve printing for the Windows community.

Printernames (actually queues) are composed from cl (color laser) or l (laser) followed by the room number. Plain numbers as well as e and t preceeded numbers are located in the Geomatikum, whereas g preceeded numbers (Graduiertenkolleg) are located in the DKRZ building (Bu45a). A letter at the end denotes multiple printers in one room.

Open windows explorer, enter \\print in the address field and press the return key. A list of available printers should be listed. Select one of them with a mouse click. In order to install the correct printer driver you must know brand and type of the printer. Choose a foomatic postscript printer. (see GNOME below)

Then in System

• „System → System settings→ Printing“ (in v11.04 to be found w/ right click on the switch)
• „Add“
• „Enter device URI“ http://cups.math.uni-hamburg.de:631/printers/<QUEUE> (where <QUEUE> is one of the printers from the browser list), then „forward“
• „Choose Driver“, „Select printer from database“,
• select brand, „forward“
• select modell and driver (use Foomatic/Postscript if possible), „forward“
• „Describe Printer“, Short name = <QUEUE> (e.g. cl225), Location = Room number, „Apply“
• print test page
• abort printer setings

Kickoff → Computer → System settings → Printer setup → New Printer / New Printers → Other

Enter printer address, follow steps just as GNOME.
